Your first steps with the Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 is an all-electric, long-range sedan equipped with intuitive controls and advanced features. Its range depends on the speed, driving style, weather, and road characteristics – i.e. flat or mountainous terrain.

Lock and unlock

Unlock your Tesla with the card by holding it near the middle of the driver’s side door pillar.

When the vehicle detects the card, the mirrors unfold, and the doors unlock.

Open the doors

Press the right side of the handle with your thumb. Grab the open handle, pull it towards you, and open the door.

To open the doors from inside the vehicle, press the button on the door handle.

Startup and shutdown

To start the vehicle, close the door and put your foot on the brake pedal. You will hear a short sound alert when it starts.

When you wish to turn off the Tesla, shift the transmission to P (parking), simply exit the vehicle, and lock it. It will turn off automatically.

Adjust the seat, mirrors and steering

Before starting your journey, adjust the power-adjustable seat, steering wheel, and exterior mirrors to your preference.

Adjust the sitting position using the buttons on the left side of the seat.

Activate the settings for the steering wheel and mirrors on the centre screen by tapping the car symbol in the bottom left corner and then selecting the Controls section.

To adjust the steering wheel, tap the appropriate icon and use the buttons on the steering wheel to set the desired angle. The same applies to adjusting the exterior mirrors, but you need to select either the left or right mirror through the on-screen controls.

Select the direction of travel

Press and hold the brake and use the gear lever to select the driving direction.

Push the lever down for D (Drive) or up for R (Reverse).

At the end of your drive, press the silver button on the end of the gear lever for the parking brake (P – Parking).

Be careful

The Tesla Model 3 is quite powerful. Be mindful when accelerating and use the accelerator pedal gently.

Good to know

The hazard lights button is located on the ceiling above the rear-view mirror, between the front ceiling lights.

Wipers and headlights

… operate automatically and respond to weather conditions and external light. You can also adjust the wiper speed using the button at the end of the left stalk of the steering column.

Connecting and charging your vehicle

You can charge Tesla vehicles at public charging stations, Tesla Superchargers (the manufacturer’s rapid charging stations), and wall outlets.

Public charging stations require payment, with various payment and activation methods depending on the provider. The most common charging providers are Petrol with their “OneCharge” App and “Gremo na elektriko”. We recommend the eFrend app for finding and activating charging stations in Slovenia.

The eFrend App

Download the “eFrend” app on your iOS or Android device and follow the registration instructions. Enter your payment card details to fully utilize the charging network provided by eFrend and its mobility partners.

Charging methods and finding charging stations

There are several types of charging stations that differ in charging power and consequently the time it takes to fully charge the battery.

You can find charging stations using the built-in navigation system or the eFrend app.

Within the navigation system, tap the search field in the top left and select the Charging button. A list of the nearest charging stations will appear, appropriately marked on the navigation map.

How to start charging?

In the boot of the vehicle, there is a cable with an adapter for a home outlet and a Type 2 cable for slower AC charging stations. Some charging stations, such as all rapid-charging stations, have their own charging cable as part of the charging unit.

Open the charge port

The charging port is located next to the vehicle’s left taillight.  You can open it with the button on the centre screen in the Charging menu or manually with a gentle press on the charge flap.

When the cable is disconnected, the charge flap closes automatically.

Insert the cable

For charging at AC stations and home outlets, take the appropriate cable from the boot and connect it to the vehicle first, and lastly to the charging station. Do not connect different charging cables to each other!

At rapid-charging stations and Tesla Superchargers, the cable is part of the charging unit, therefore connect it only to the vehicle.

Initiate charging

Activate charging stations with the QR code displayed on the charging station itself and/or with the charging provider’s app.

When charging at a Tesla Supercharger, simply plug in the vehicle, as no additional activation is required.

Tesla Supercharger

You can easily find charging locations using the integrated navigation system on the center screen. Within the navigation system, tap the search field in the top left and select the Charging button.

A list of the nearest charging stations will appear, also marked on the map. Supercharger stations are indicated with a red lightning bolt icon. Navigate to the selected charging station using the navigation button. During the drive, the battery will automatically adjust to the optimal temperature for the fastest charging speed.

After the charging process is complete, disconnect your Tesla from the Supercharger, as the system will otherwise start charging an idle fee.  These additional fees, along with the cost of charging, are not included in the price of rental and must be paid by the customer upon vehicle return.

How to stop charging?

Charging stops automatically when the battery is full. You can manually interrupt the process at any time in the Charging section of the vehicle settings menu by pressing the Stop Charging button and then Unlock Charge Port.

Disconnect the cable from the vehicle, and the charge flap will close automatically.

Do not forget...

Once the vehicle is charged, disconnect it from the charging station and, if necessary, repark it to another location.

If you do not intend to charge the vehicle, do not park at charging stations.

Opening and closing the trunk/boot
